PLATINUM KNIGHT
A Platinum Knight is a formidable opponent who seldom makes mistakes, has learned to handle distractions and time pressure, and generally calculates precisely. A Platinum Knight can appreciate chess history, the evolution of chess ideas, and the contributions of its greatest champions.
Requirements / Coaching Guide
- Machine Mode
- play three practice games with the "Chess Calculation" sheet
- Chess Book
- pick a chess book and read it, using a chessboard to follow positions.
- Time Pressure
- practice games at Game 1 minute, 5 second delay.
- More Annotation
- have player annotate scholastic games then compare with Houdini; at least three games.
- B+N vs K
- show technique and check off when player can successfully win B+N vs K.
- Endgames
- endgame quizzes (at least 20) from Polgar's big CHESS book.
- Other Openings
- survey other openings: Scotch Game, Center Gambit, Russian (Petroff) Defense, Caro-Kann, Pirc, Sicilian, Dutch Defense, Slav, Albin's Counter Gambit, Budapest, Reti, English Opening, King's Indian Attack, Trompowski, etc.
- Opening Repertory
- prepare opening repertory with player, as White and as Black.
- Practice Games
- ten notated practice games at rank
- Alekhine
- go over ten Alekhine games
- Tournament
- must compete in official chess tournament at previous level with notation and good sportsmanship.
- Promotion Game
- Win a game from a higher-rated player getting Platinum Knight odds.
Requirements continue to evolve and may therefore change at any time. Substitutions may be granted in some cases to award particularly strong play.
