SILVER KNIGHT
A Silver Knight understands calculation, planning, and assessment, will find beautiful combinations, but will sometimes lose focus and blunder. A Silver Knight has an opening repertory of plans as both White and Black.
Requirements / Coaching Guide
- Stunners
- use MCO (or similar opening treatise) to test the player. If he falters, he is "stunned."
- The Two Bishops
- play out practice set-up positions with NN vs BB under various pawn structures.
- Machine Mode
- play two practice games with the "Chess Calculation" sheet
- IQP
- discuss the Isolated Queen's Pawn, strategies and mindset with or against.
- BOC
- demonstrate bishops of opposite color, when you can win and when you can draw.
- More Mates
- more mate in three quizzes (at least 20) from Polgar's big CHESS book.
- Tailored Training
- provide tailored training lesson based on player's overall strengths and weaknesses.
- Queen's Gambit
- describe basic themes and main lines of the Queen's Gambit, both accepted and declined; player tries some practice games in the opening.
- Practice Games
- ten notated practice games at rank
- Lasker
- go over ten Lasker games
- Tournament
- must compete in official chess tournament at previous level with notation and good sportsmanship.
- Promotion Game
- Win a game from a higher-rated player getting Silver Knight odds.
Requirements continue to evolve and may therefore change at any time. Substitutions may be granted in some cases to award particularly strong play.
