A Gold Knight is solid in the opening, resourceful in the middlegame, and ruthless in the endgame. A Gold Knight has a growing opening repertory, plays well, but will sometimes make faulty calculations.

have player annotate scholastic games then compare with Houdini; at least three games.

demonstrate R+P vs R endgames, when you can win and when you can draw; Philidor's Drawn Position, Lucena's Winning Position

combinations quizzes (at least 20) from Polgar's big CHESS book.
Tailored Training
provide tailored training lesson based on player's overall strengths and weaknesses.
Indian Defenses
survey Indian Defenses: King's Indian, Gruenfeld, Queen's Indian, Nimzo-Indian, Bogo-Indian; player tries some practice games in the openings.
Practice Games
ten notated practice games at rank
Capablanca
go over ten Capablanca games
Tournament
must compete in official chess tournament at previous level with notation and good sportsmanship.
Promotion Game
Win a game from a higher-rated player getting Gold Knight odds.
Requirements continue to evolve and may therefore change at any time. Substitutions may be granted in some cases to award particularly strong play.
